Goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa

E's family returned from Italy on Wednesday afternoon, giving us time for one more dinner together (a 50th Anniversary celebration!) at Hiltl and a morning in Zurich before Grandma and Grandpa's plane home. Thursday was Ascension Day, so everything was closed. Also, we were unable to go in Fraumunster to see the Chagall windows or go up the Grossmunster tower. On the plus side, the streets were pretty much abandoned so we could admire Old Town without crowds.

Schwarzenbach was closed, but it was fun to look in the windows and see all their dried fruits. T had gotten a mix bag the day before as a going away present for Grandma and Grandpa.

Peclard's was open, so that was awesome! It is usually completely mobbed, but it was almost empty. I was able to take pictures in the shop and we finally got to sit on the red velvet sofas like I have always wanted. We had hot chocolates, cold chocolates, and mille feuilles. With all the different cakes, the girls always get the same thing. I think it is because of the gold dusted currants.

L is always willing to stop and smile for the camera.

Three generations of Hudson men, and L.

After walking through Old Town we were lucky to catch a ferry back to the train station. From there, I took the kids to the playground behind the Landesmuseum while everyone else went to the hotel to pick up the luggage. The main attraction at the playground was the box for the chess pieces.

After quite a while at the playground I began to wonder what was taking everyone so long. It turned out that the calls to me weren't going through, and that it was almost time for the train. The kids and I ran back to the train station to say our goodbyes. Everyone was sad to see Grandma and Grandpa go. T thought that if he stayed in the stroller and didn't say goodbye it might not happen.
