Schilthorn

R writing today!

On Saturday we all headed back down to Interlaken, this time for something we've been wanting to go to since we arrived in Switzerland. It was a beautiful day with perfect temperature. We could see thing that we couldn't see other times we went.

First we went up to Wengen to go on a hike. Unfortunately (and surprisingly) it was closed due to snow. We had the stroller with us, so we didn't have any other options for hiking. So we decided to change our schedule. We went to our hotel in Mürren and dropped off the stroller and our bags. Then we hopped on a gondola and enjoyed the beautiful view on the way up to Schilthorn.

Actually, it wasn't all that smooth. When we were getting ready to get on the gondola up to Schilthorn we accidently headed toward the gondola down to Gimmelwald. I noticed that it was wrong and so we shuffled everyone off as fast as we could. Unfortunately, T had made his way into the middle of the gondola and we didn't realize it until it was too late. Daddy ran and tried to get him, but the gondola was on its way. We decided we'd go to the control station and ask them to send T back up but they were a step ahead of us and someone came out to tell us the gondola driver had noticed the situation and would bring T back up.

Since we knew everything would be alright in the end we had to giggle about the situation. However, S got mad and L was running around frantically calling, "T where are you? Where my T?" We picked her up and briefly told her what had happened. She was not happy.

T was not happy either. The gondola driver told us he was well behaved and didn't cry. But when he got back he refused to discuss what had happened and probably never will. When we did get on the right gondola, he made sure we came, too.

T disembarks from his solo ride.

At the top of the Schilthorn gondola I noticed this warning sign to hikers.

Schilthorn is a restaurant on the top of a mountain. It's not a normal restaurant, though. It's a revolving restaurant. The seats spin slowly in a circle so you can get a 360° view of the surrounding snowy mountains, including amazing views of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. We had lunch then stepped out onto the viewing terrace (but only for a while, because it's not so comfortable in short sleeves and shorts on top of a snowy mountain peak.) Back inside there was an interactive James Bond exhibit because a James Bond movie was filmed there. Even though I haven't seen any of the movies, there were interesting notes there. For example, the movie makers wanted the gondolas to be orange for the film. But the city was against it. Eventually the city gave in, but they had to be painted back to their usual style when the filming was over. Interestingly, the gondolas weren't actually repainted until 25 years after the fact.

I don't know what I did to anger James Bond.

In the restaurant, T loved sitting on the stationary edge and watching us slowly spin away from him.

When we were walking through Mürren Mama saw this water fountain and decided to use it to prove her suspicions are justified.
