Father's Day on Ebenalp

Happy Father's Day to our dads!

This is R writing.

Yesterday (Sunday) was our last day to go up in the Swiss mountains before we leave for eastern Europe, as well as Fathers Day, so we decided to do something cool, special, and something very Swiss. We headed down to a beautiful view from Ebenalp. It was windy and chilly, but not as bad as it could've been, and the wind gave us a chance for some nice interesting Paraglider-watching. Some of them were getting a lot higher than when they took off! We decided we'd take a short walk through a cave to our destination on the mountain, and then see where to go from there.

A hermit used to live on the mountain, I think this was his house. Inside are a couple little signs and a bear skeleton talking about the cavemen who used to live in the cave there.

This little overhang off the mountain reminded me of the ones in the gorge we walked through with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt P and Uncle D. It terrified Mama.

The walk was short, but really beautiful. Then we reached this little guesthouse restaurant that is built onto the mountain in a really cool way. The mountain acted like a wall. S really loved the way you could see from inside out the window how the rock continues into the cliff. We ordered a nice Swiss lunch and relaxed.

I shared a rostli and fryed eggs with L. Rostli is pretty much just hashbrowns, and it's a pretty popular Swiss dish.

When we came back out of the restaurant to head back to the gondola, we noticed that there were some new customers. There were two ponies-a mother and baby-bugging some guy for his food. As he tried to convince them he was done, Louisa carefully approached the baby pony. She had finally found a "cow" her size! Mooo! She loved petting it, but every time it moved or made a noise she would jump back with an "oh!". When we had to leave she hugged it goodbye, and it didn't seem to mind.

We couldn't have brought the stroller with us because of the uneaven, rocky, path and stairs, so the littles had to walk by themselves. L enjoyed being able to walk and not being shoved into the bottom if the stroller, but it really tired her out. Daddy ended up having to carry both her and T for the last stretch. We just made it to the gondola back down.

I'm not sure if L's actually asleep here, all I know is that she stole S's raincoat for a blanket and snuggle. She had tried using her shirt for a snuggle, but it wouldn't reach high enough, and it was too hard to hold it and suck her thumb at the same time.
