Last night E brought R and S into Zurich to see the New Year's Eve fireworks. I stayed home with the littles. L fell asleep early, but T had trouble settling down. He and I rang in the new year doing one of his favorite night time activities: reading Nancy Drew with superheroes replacing Nancy, Bess, and George. Usually T doesn't notice that Batman is acting and speaking like a 1930's teenaged girl. However, sometimes something catches his attention that he knows just is not right. That is how, "No! Batman NOT have a charming new hat!" became a catchphrase around here.
E and the girls enjoyed the fireworks despite the cold and the drunks. They said the fireworks were not as good as the Fourth of July display at home but there were some interesting low fireworks effects. To be fair, our town has a pretty enormous show synchronized to music. They were glad they went, but it was a very late night since the night train makes every stop between here and Zurich. Everyone was tired today. E woke up early to wake up R who wanted to watch the ball drop in New York. In doing so he woke up L who wouldn't go back to sleep.
We had hoped to go to the town pool today, but it was closed so we just hung around again. It was nice. The girls and I watched funny videos on youtube and we all ate cookies and watched White Christmas together. R caught up on email and S did some math with E. It's kind of nice to ease into the new year and taper off from the holidays at the same time.
New Year's resolutions:
E: spend more time learning German, go on dates with A
A: try to get out more, keep perfect track of finances, make home improvements
R: doesn't have any
S: do more math
T: improving his math, reading, and grammar (resolved on his behalf)
