Half way

I've been at home sick with a low fever and rattling cough all week, hoping to be better by the weekend, so we haven't gone anywhere or done anything to post about. Even R didn't go on her ski trip. It was postponed due to weather (or avalanche forecast, we're not sure.) So here is a little filler post so my mom doesn't worry about us :)

We are just over half way through our time here (we bought our tickets home the other day*), so it seems like a good time to take stock of what we have done and remind ourselves of the things that we absolutely want to make sure we do before we leave.

Cantons visited 12 out of 26:
Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, Schwyz, Basel-Stadt, Schaffhausen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, St Gallen, Graubunden, Aargau, Ticino, and Valais
I was surprised by this. How can we not have been to Vaud? And I can think of 3 or 4 places in Glarus I was very excited to see. I hope some of them will be open before we leave.

Countries visited 5:
Switzerland, Italy, Vatican City, Germany, France

Things we have done from the top ten list I made in April 7 out of 10:
Schonbielhutte (a.k.a. the mountain rescue), paragliding, skiing, Christmas markets, onion market and other vegetable markets and festivals, and Silvester. I do not count hiking because we haven't done much at all. Also, I do not count all the vehicles yet because we haven't done sledging or the Pilatus circle. I do count thermal baths - we haven't been anywhere relaxing, but Bernaqua was a lot of fun!

Top ten things I'd still like to do:
1. more hiking (including winter hiking)
2. more thermal baths
3. St Beatus caves
4. Pilatus circle trip
5. visit all the cantons
6. transportation museum
7. chocolate factory
8. Schilthorn
9. ropes course (MUST do - I promised S!)
10. go to Liechtenstein

things S would like to do:
1. ropes course
2. go to more playgrounds
3. see a marmot
4. Paul Klee museum
5. Sprungli cafe

things R would like to do:
1. spa
2. more skiing
3. go to more cafes
4. see a different area of mountains, maybe in Italian or French speaking parts
5. go to Neuchatel and Geneva

I think E is satisfied wherever we go. His goals are probably all work related. T would go to every playground in the country if he could. If L had a list, I think returning the Saas-Fee would be on the top of it. She cried when we left after Christmas.

* We come in late July 9th. We are flying Icelandair again. We had some trouble with their computer system while we were buying the tickets and price went up while we tried to fix things. E called and explained and they immediately gave him the rate we had wanted, minus a few dollars.

    1. Hope you're feeling better. It's hard to be sick and have to take care of little ones at the same time. Maybe we can check off a couple of the "want to do's" while we're there. You certainly have seen and experienced a lot during your stay. Enjoy all! Love, Grandma H.

  2. There is a new car rental company called :rent a wreck: I will make a reservation for you to have two "wrecks" waiting at the airport on July 9 so you can drive them back to Pa with all your stuff. Maybe Trix can help drive home now that she is 13. I was driving at that age. GRAND_MA A

  3. Thanks, you two! I am feeling a little better other than being exhausted, dehydrated, and unable to eat. But I am determined to get out this weekend no matter what.
